Director/Strategic Health Planner

my story

When I started to think about "Creating a Third Space" I imagined an opportunity to be creating a neutral space that enables us to flourish, to safely explore opportunities, and to develop places which can seed healthier communities. There are innumerable, literal and figurative, interpretations of the Third Space which are already tumbling out of my head, and I look forward to exploring them with you, this community and the broader health sector.

The exploration of service needs and models of care is a critical first step to inform business cases, project scope and brief development, as is the establishment of the context of infrastructure investment including current and future state, clinical fit for purpose, and the role of key enablers including digital. These activities are central to health planning, and bringing all stakeholders with often-competing agendas on the journey to enact a balanced approach to health service delivery and infrastructure investment is what excites me as a Strategic Health Advisor.

My work has been enriched by my lived experience as a clinician and expertise as a designer; informed by research and best practice; and underpinned by a commitment to accessible and sustainable health care. I believe that collectively our industry can positively contribute to health outcomes and the patient-experience whatever the nature of the space they inhabit. Whether it is our home or a health facility, the clinical workroom or design studio, or the spaces in between - it is all about Creating a Third Space.

As a health infrastructure planning leader, I have provided expert advice and strategic recommendations to government, health service and corporate leaders, ensuring decisions are guided by rigorous analysis, transparency, and responsible investment principles.

Working as a trusted advisor to government, health services and industry for over 15 years, I apply planning principles that promote efficient clinical and operational service delivery, leveraging existing assets to enable value for money and future thinking capital investment decisions. The application of my formal design qualifications to strategic infrastructure planning is enriched by my clinical and management background.

Critical to the delivery of past roles is my ability to distil the evidence base and undertake structured analysis. As a skilled facilitator, I actively manage outcomes focused agendas, give audience to and mediate expectations; and advocate for co-develop and co-design approaches.

My diverse experience working within a multidisciplinary design team offers a depth of knowledge in relation to architectural and engineering requirements; asset management; and program and project management.

I look forward to working with you.
